New call for proposal: MSCA4Ukraine

In response to the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine, the European Union has established a new fellowship scheme, MSCA4Ukraine, to support displaced Ukrainian researchers. This initiative will allow these researchers to continue their work at academic and non-academic organizations across EU Member States and Horizon Europe Associated Countries, while maintaining their ties to research and innovation communities in Ukraine.

The MSCA4Ukraine Programme offers academic and non-academic institutions in all EU member states and Horizon Europe-associated states the opportunity to host doctoral students and PhD holders/postdoctoral fellows for periods ranging from 6 to 24 months.

Eligibility criteria for candidates are as follows:

  • Ukrainian nationals, stateless persons, or nationals from third countries (excluding Ukraine) whose primary residence was in Ukraine as of 24 February 2022.
  • Individuals displaced from Ukraine on or after 24 February 2022.
  • Postdoctoral researchers (holding a doctoral degree by the start of the fellowship) or those who were enrolled as doctoral candidates at a higher education institution in Ukraine as of 24 February 2022.
  • Candidates must possess the necessary language skills to successfully conduct their research at the prospective host institution, as confirmed by the host institution.
  • Current and former MSCA4Ukraine fellows are not eligible for nomination.

Applications must be submitted online via the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s portal, which will be open from 5 August to 5 September 2024 (23:59 CEST). Prospective host institutions must submit applications on behalf of the researchers. Fellowship awards are anticipated in March 2025, with the fellowship term commencing in April 2025.
